In the last years o the Soviet Union, as naitionalist muivements swept throughoot the Caucasus, many intellectuals in the North Ossetian ASSR called for the revival of the name of Alanie, a medieval kinrick o the Alans, ancestors o the modren-day Osseties. The term o "Alanie" quickly became popular in Ossetie daily life through the names o various enterprises, a TV channel, poleetical an civic organizations, publishin hoose, soccer team, etc. In November 1994, the name o "Alanie" wis offeecially addit tae the republican title (Republic o North Ossetie–Alanie).[9]
