Arkhangelsk Oblast (Roushie: Арха́нгельская о́бласть, Arkhangelskaya oblast) is a federal subject o Roushie (an oblast). It includes the Arctic airchipelagos o Franz Josef Land an Novaya Zemlya, as well as the Solovetsky Islands in the White Sea.
Arkhangelsk Oblast an aw haes admeenistrative jurisdiction ower Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Nenetsie). Includin Nenetsie, Arkhangelsk Oblast haes an aurie o 587,400 km². Population (includin Nenetsie): 1,227,626 (2010 Census).[10]
The ceety o Arkhangelsk, wi a population o 348,716 as o the 2010 Census,[13] is the admeenistrative center o the oblast. The seicont lairgest ceety is the nearbi Severodvinsk, hame tae Sevmash, the main shipyard for the Roushie Navy.
Amang the auldest ceeties o the region are Kholmogory, Kargopol, an Solvychegodsk; there are a number o Roushie Orthodox monasteries, includin the Antoniev Siysky Monastery an the Warld Heritage Steid o the Solovetsky Islands in the White Sea.
Plesetsk Cosmodrome is ane o three spaceports in Roushie (the ither twa are Kapustin Yar in Astrakhan Oblast an Svobodny in Amur Oblast).
