An oblast is a teep o admeenistrative diveesion in certain Slavic kintras, includin some kintras o the umwhile Soviet Union. The wird "oblast" is a loanwird in Inglis,[1] but it is nivertheless aften translatit as "area", "zone", "province", or "region". The last translation mey lead tae confusion, acause the subdiveesion o "oblast" is cried "raion" which is translatit as "region" or "destrict", dependin on the context.

Offeecial terms in successor states o the Soviet Union differ, but some still uise a cognate o the Roushie term, e.g. voblast (voblasts, voblasts' , [ˈvobɫasʲtsʲ]) is uised for Regions o Belaroushie, an oblys (plural: oblystar) for provinces o Kazakhstan.
