Rosh HaAyin (Hebrew: רֹאשׁ הָעָיִן‬, lit. Fountainhead) is a ceety in the Central District of Israel. Tae the wast of Rosh HaAyin is the fortress of Antipatris an the soorce o the Yarkon River. Tae the southeast is the fortress of Migdal Afek (Migdal Tzedek).[3] As of 2009, the population of Rosh HaAyin wis 38,500.[2]

History

Rosh HaAyin wis foondit in the 1950s near the steid o auncient Antipatris, on the grunds o a Breetish military camp (for detailed pre-1950's history o the aurie see Majdal Yaba). Mony o the residents wur Yemenite Jews airliftit tae Israel in 1949 an 1950 in Operation Magic Carpet.

For decades Rosh HaAyin wis kent as "a Yemenite toun". Houiver, in the 1990's extensive new neighborhuids wur biggit, constitutin in effect a whole new toun, which drew a considerable nummer o Israelis o ither oreegins. The toun still haes, houiver, a lairge Yemenite population – concentratit in the aulder neighborhuids.

Rosh HaAyin is named efter its location at the mooth o the Yarkon Spring (rosh = heid, ayin = spring).[3]
