Merseyside (/[unsupported input]ˈmɜːrzisaɪd/) is a metropolitan coonty in North Wast Ingland, wi a population o 1,365,900.[1] It encompasses the metropolitan aurie centred on baith banks o the lawer reaches o the Mersey Estuary, an comprises five metropolitan burghs: Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton, Wirral, an the ceety o Liverpuil. Merseyside, which wis creatit on 1 Aprile 1974 as a result o the Local Govrenment Act 1972, takes its name frae the River Mersey.
