It is the caipital o the Cochabamba Depairtment an is the fowert lairgest ceety in Bolivie wi an urban population o 608,276 (2008)[1] an a metropolitan population o mair nor 1,000,000 fowk. The name derives frae a compund o the Quechua words qucha, meanin "lake", an pampa, "open plain".[2] Residents o the ceety an surroondin auries are commonly referred tae as Cochabambinos. Cochabamba is kent as the "Ceety o Eternal Spring" an "The Garden Ceety" due tae its spring-like temperatures year roond. It is forby kent as "La Llajta", "toun" in Quechua.
