Alpes-Maritimes (French pronunciation: [alp.ma.ʁi.tim]; Occitan: Aups Maritims) is a depairtment in the extreme sootheast corner o Fraunce.

The depairtment is surroondit bi the French depairtments o Var, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Italy an the principality o Monaco tae the east, an the Mediterranean tae the sooth.
Alpes-Maritimes includes the famous French Riviera coastline on the Mediterranean Sea wi the important touns an ceeties o Cannes, Nice, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, an Antibes.
The aurie is muntainous richt doun tae the coast. This soothren aurie o the Alps is termit the Maritime Alps.

Alpes-Maritimes is dividit intae 2 arrondissements (Grasse an Nice), 52 cantons an 163 municipalities (communes).
In 2002 they wur creatit 14 intercommunalities (Intercommunalité).[1] 4 o them are metropolitan: 3 agglomeration communities (Pôle Azur Provence,[2] Riviera Française[3] an Sophia Antipolis[4]) an 1 urban community (Nice-Côte d'Azur[5]). The ither 10 are Communauté de communes: Vallée de l'Estéron, Monts d'Azur, Pays des Paillons, Coteaux d'Azur, Vallées d'Azur, Tinée, Cians Var, Stations du Mercantour, Terres de Siagne and Vésubie Mercantour.
