Kardzhali Province (Bulgarie: Област Кърджали, transliteratit Oblast Kardjali) is a province o soothren Bulgarie, neebourin Greece wi the Greek regional units o Xanthi, Rhodope an Evros tae the sooth an east. Kardzhali Province aurie is 3209.1 km². Its main ceety is Kardzhali.
History
[eedit | eedit soorce]The territory o Kardzhali province wis acquired bi Bulgarie durin the First Balkan War in 1912. In 1913 the region wis organizit as the destrict (окръг, okrag in Bulgarie) o Mestanli. This destrict wis pairt o Stara Zagora province frae 1934 till 1949,[2] then it wis transferred tae the newly formit Haskovo destrict. In 1959 Kardzhali became the centre o a new destrict wi seemilar borders tae the current province. Atween 1987 an 1999, the region wis pairt o Haskovo Province, efter which it wis restored, nou as a province an wi slichtly chyngit borders.
