Neuss (German pronunciation: [ˈnɔʏs]; spelled Neuß til 1968; Limburgish: Nüss; Latin: Novaesium) is a ceety in North Rhine-Westphalie, Germany. It is locatit on the wast bank o the Rhine opposite Düsseldorf. Neuss is the lairgest ceety athin the Rhein-Kreis Neuss destrict an awes its prosperity tae its location at the crossin o historic an modren trade routes. It is primarily kent for its historic Roman steids, as well as the annual Neusser Bürger-Schützenfest. In 1984 Neuss celebratit 2000 years syne its foondation. It therefore haulds the title o "Germany's auldest ceety" alangside the ceety o Trier.
