Batangas (Filipino: Lalawigan ng Batangas), (Spaingie: Provincia de Batangas), is a first cless province o the Philippines locatit on the soothwastren pairt o Luzon in the CALABARZON region. Its caipital is Batangas Ceety an it is bordered bi the provinces o Cavite an Laguna tae the north an Quezon tae the east. Athort the Verde Island Passages tae the sooth is the island o Mindoro an tae the wast lees the Sooth Cheenae Sea. Poetically, Batangas is aften referred tae bi its auncient name Kumintang.

Etymologie

[eedit | eedit soorce]

The first recordit name o the Province wis Kumintang. Its centre, the present day Balayan, wis the maist progressive toun o the Province an the tradeetional centre o govrenance. Later, as the eruption o the Taal Volcano destroyed a significant portion o the toun, the provincial centre wis transferred tae Taal, which wis then cried Bonbon an the name o the province wis chyngit efter that o the toun.

The term Batangan means a raft, the fowk uised so that they coud fish in the nearbi Taal Loch. It meant the numerous logs foond in the Calumpang River an aw, the bouk o watter that runs throu the northeastren portion o the toun an assumes the shape o a tunin fork.
