The event featurit 94 participants, wit a qualifyin event for 78 players held in Bristol frae 1 tae 13 Apryle; 16 o thir players qualified for the main stage in Sheffield, whaur thay met 16 invitit seedit competitors. The tot prize fund for the event wis £200,000, the heichest tot pool for ony snooker toornament tae that date; the winner received £44,000.
