Nurmijärvi
Nurmijärvi (Template:IPA-fi) is the maist populatit rural municipality o Finland, locatit 37 kilometres (23 mi) north o the caipital Helsinki.
The close proximity tae Helsinki haes led tae a considerable growth o the major veelages such as Klaukkala an Rajamäki, which nouadays are considered dormitory touns o Helsinki. Klaukkala is the biggest built-up aurie o Nurmijärvi.
Nurmijärvi literally means "lawn lake" although the lake that gave the municipality its name wis drained in the early 20t century an is nou nothing mair than some flat fields near the veelage centre.
Nurmijärvi is best kent as the birthplace o Finland's naitional author, Aleksis Kivi (1834–1872). His play Nummisuutarit (The Cobblers o the Heath) – wi colourful scenes o rural life in the 19t century Nurmijärvi parish – are performed in simmer at an ootdoor theatre in Palojoki, the veelage where Kivi wis born.
Matti Vanhanen, the previous Prime Meenister o Finland, lives in Lepsämä in Nurmijärvi.
