Tanchon or Tanch'ŏn is a ceety in northeastren Hamgyongnam-do, North Korea. It haes a population o approximately 360,000. Tanchon borders the Sea o Japan (East Sea o Korea), intae which the Namdae River flows.

There are extensive mineral resources in the aurie, includin cobalt, magnesite, an iron ore. The ceety is kent for its chemical production, textiles, metal ware, machinery, smeltin.

Tanchon is situatit on the Pyongra Line railwey. In 2012 the ceety's port wis renovatit an upgradit.[1]

The population o Cheenese gorals in Tanchon haes been designatit North Korean natural monument #293.[2]
