Felidae is the biological faimily o the cats; a member o this faimily is cried a felid. The maist faimiliar felid is the domestic cat, whilk first acame associatit wi humans aboot 10,000 year syne; but the faimily includes aw ither wild cats, includin the big cats.

Extant felids alang tae ane o twa subfaimilies: Pantherinae (whilk includes the teeger, the lion, the jaguar, an the leopard), an Felinae (whilk includes the cougar, the cheetah, the lynxes, the ocelot, an the domestic cat).

Felids is the strictest carnivores o the 13 terrestrial faimilies in the order Carnivora, tho the three faimilies o marine mammals comprisin the superfaimily Pinnipedia is sae carnivorous as the felids.
