Hidalgo (Spainyie pronunciation: [iˈðalɣo]), offeecially Free an sovereign State o Hidalgo (Spainyie: Estado Libre y Soberano de Hidalgo), is ane o the 31 states which, wi the Federal Destrict, comprise the 32 Federal Entities o Mexico. It is dividit in 84 municipalities an its caipital ceety is Pachuca de Soto.
In 1869, Benito Juárez creatit the State o Hidalgo. He appointit as caipital o the state the ceety o Pachuca to which was addit the name "de Soto" in recognition o Manuel Fernando Soto, who is considered the maist important drivin force in creatin the state.[9] The state wis namit efter Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, the initiator o the Mexican War o Unthirldom.
It is locatit in Eastren Mexico.[10] Hidalgo is bordered bi San Luis Potosí an Veracruz on the north, Puebla on the east, Tlaxcala an México on the sooth an Querétaro on the wast.[11]
