A demonym /ˈdɛmənɪm/, an aa referred tae as a gentilic, is a name for a resident o a locality an is uisually, tho nae always, derived frae the name o a locality.[1] For example, the demonym for the fowk o Breetain is Breetish; the demonym for the fowk o Canadae is Canadian; the demonym for the fowk o Norawa is Norwegian; while the maist common Inglis leid demonym for the fowk o the Netherlands is Dutch.
