Singuilucan is a toun an ane o the 84 municipalities o Hidalgo, in central-eastren Mexico. The municipality covers an aurie o 334.1 km². As o 2005, the municipality haed a total population o 13,143.[1]
The name o Singuilucan haes been erroneously given as "lugar de lodo o de mucho lodo" (place o silt or too hintle mud), which in Nahuatl wad be Zoquilocan. But the pre-Columbie glyph for this toun clearly shows a hill wi quelites (quilitl means green herbs, tzintli in Nahuatl) growin at its base. It shows a blade o a knife an aw, alludin tae the obsidian blade industry o Teotihuacan, which wis based in this aurie, as well as thare is nearbi "El Cerro de las Navajas" ("hill o the knives").
So the correct translation o Singuilucan is tzinquilocan, "the place at the base o the muntain o quelites".[2]
