It is locatit in North-Central Mexico. It is bordered bi the states o Durango tae the northwast, Coahuila tae the north, Nayarit tae the wast, San Luis Potosí an Nuevo León tae the east, an Jalisco, Guanajuato an Aguascalientes tae the sooth.

Etymology
"Zacatecas" is the Nahuatl-derivit name for ane o the indigenous fowks who inhabitit the region afore the arrival o the Spainyie. The name ultimately derives frae the Nahuatl wird for a type o grass common in the region, zacatl. The region whaur this grass grew wis oreeginally cried Zacatlan, an its inhabitants, Zacateca, pluralizit in Mexican Spainyie tae Zacatecas.
