Zacatecas ([sakaˈtekas]) offeecially Estado Libre y Soberano de Zacatecas (Scots: Free an Sovereign State o Zacatecas) is ane o the 31 states which, wi the Federal Destrict, comprise the 32 Federal Entities o Mexico. It is dividit in 58 municipalities an its caipital ceety is Zacatecas.

Etymology
"Zacatecas" is the Nahuatl-derivit name for ane o the indigenous fowks who inhabitit the region afore the arrival o the Spainyie. The name ultimately derives frae the Nahuatl wird for a type o grass common in the region, zacatl. The region whaur this grass grew wis oreeginally cried Zacatlan, an its inhabitants, Zacateca, pluralizit in Mexican Spainyie tae Zacatecas.
