San Marino[eedit soorce]

That sentence above from Diego, he's another of our absentee admins who is really from somewhere else, his single sentence has either 3 or 4 spelling errors in it, depending on which authority you care to follow.

With San Marino, I can tell you who wrote that article without looking at the log.
It's chockablock with imperfect Scots. Your correction was fine, but it was a drop in the bucket.
I have spent a lot of time here trying to identify whose Scots is reliable and whose is not.
(I have edited 1/3 of the articles and probably read another 1/3.) And that is complicated by the fact that even the reliable ones have different dialects, and may or may not be writing phonetically.
The available authorities are contradictory: I have one that says the Scots word for "hand" is "haun". Then there's the one that says it's "haund".
Few of the people who started this were native speakers. Presumably that's why the word "start" has 3 different spellings here. The word "Wikipedia" has 3 different official spellings. The word "user" has 2. The original group never solved the problem of what the months are called.

I can't tell you who wrote which Mediawiki message, but there is no consistency there. And only a tiny number of people wrote them.

Okay, I have no knowledge of Scots whatsoever (except for my native understanding of English, which is enough to understand most basic sentences but not write them). So my Scots is basically just going through Wikipedia:RRSSC Common wordleet (Inglis ti Scots) and Wikipedia:Scots-English-Scots dictionar. Do you need specific assistance with anything? PiRSquared17 (talk) 14:34, 21 Januar 2013 (UTC)[Replie]

(in Inglis) It is time for some corrective and instructive attention here.
Apparently our articles need to conform to French Wikipedia titles.

I have no idea why this user is doing that. I'm not sure blocking would be in the scope of global sysops so I won't do that, sorry. PiRSquared17 (talk) 14:36, 21 Januar 2013 (UTC)[Replie]

Thank you for cleaning up my error[eedit soorce]

Thank you very much for sorting out the mess I made of the Fitba article, and sorry to put you through it. James Hyett (tauk) 17:34, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

Admin nomination[eedit soorce]

Thanks for your nomination to me as an Admin. I'm not sure I am appropriately knowledgable in Wikipedia practice for the role, and that others that come up through the editathon due later will be better candidates. But I'm open minded. So if you can share what might be expected, and also the number of admins usually associated with a minority language (from a layperson expected the 5 or 6 on sco wiki seems low). Soothrhins (tauk) 22:26, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

Admin tools include the ability to delete pages, block users from editing, and to protect/lock pages from being edited (usually temporarily). The tools aren't that hard to navigate. If you would like to be made an admin on test.wikipedia.org so you can play around with the interface, that could be arranged. As for the number of admins associated with a small wiki, there are actually lots of projects that have fewer than 5 or 6 sysops, let alone active sysops. PiRSquared17 (tauk) 22:38, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
@PiRSquared17:A think a test around would be very useful. I also worry about the time commitment required. But I appreciate the support you are offering too, my understanding is that some of the people in the Facebook group right now are just joining up here now, and they may be a more confident or active candidate. But again, after witnessing a lot of chat on that discussion page, its great to see some experienced users coming in to offer practical help in different ways. Seems like my suggestion about test.wikipedia.org was misguided. If you want to test out MediaWiki admin tools, this website is probably the best place to go. PiRSquared17 (tauk) 23:06, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

IP you blocked on 27/8 is back[eedit soorce]

Just a head's up: Uiser collogue:178.34.187.138, who you blocked on August 27 for a week is back, and English-er than ever! James Hyett (tauk) 14:08, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

I've gone ahead and deleted the page, but I'd rather let User:MJL decide whether this warrants a re-block and for what duration. (Personally it seems clear to me that they aren't here to contribute in Scots.) PiRSquared17 (tauk) 16:38, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
@PiRSquared17 and James Hyett: 6th months block. Doesn't seem like there is any collateral there. –MJLTauk 18:06, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
