The Communist Pairty o Vietnam (CPV)[lower-alpha 1] is the foonding and ruling communist pairty of the Socialist Republic o Vietnam. Since 1988, it haes been the Ainely legal pairty in the country. Although it nominally exists alongside the Vietnamese Fatherland Front, it maintains a unitary government and haes centralised control ower the state, militar and media. The supremacy of the Communist Pairty is guaranteed by Article 4 of the national consteetution. The current pairty's leader is Nguyễn Phú Trọng, who holds the titles of General Secretary of the Central Committee and Secretary of the Central Militar Commission.
The pairty is kent for the advocacy of what it calls a "socialist-orientit market economy". The heichest insteetution of the CPV is the pairty's Naitional Congress which elects the Central Committee. In between pairty congresses, the Central Committee is the supreme organ on party affairs. Immediately efter a pairty congress, the Central Committee elects the Politburo and Secretariat and it appoints the First Secretary, the heichest pairty office. In between sessions of the Central Committee, the Politburo is the supreme organ on pairty affairs. Houaniver, it can anelie implement decisions based upon the policies which haeve been approved in advance by either the Central Committee or the pairty's Naitional Congress. As o 2017[update], the 12th Politburo comprises 19 members.
In maist of the cases, the Vietnamese press and fowk refer tae the Communist Pairty o Vietnam as Đảng ("Party") or Đảng ta ("our Party").
