Ciudad Vieja is a municipality in the Guatemalan depairtment o Sacatepéquez. Accordin tae the 2002 Guatemalan Census, the municipality haes a total o 25,696 fowk.
Ciudad Vieja wis the seicont colonial caipital o the kintra.

Jorge de Alvarado founded the second capital here for the Captaincy General of Guatemala in 1527.[1]
San Miguel Escobar[eedit | eedit soorce]
San Miguel Escobar is the modren name for the destrict that contains the ruins o the seicont colonial caipital o the Guatemala region. The Spaniards foondit their caipital here in 1527, efter their previous caipital at Tecpán Guatemala became untenable. The ceety wis destroyed bi a catastrophic lahar frae Volcan de Agua in 1541, an the survivors haed nae choice but tae abandon the steid.[1] Amang the casualties wis the govrenor Beatriz de la Cueva.[2]
The caipital wis again refoondit several miles awa at Antigua Guatemala in 1543.
