Tradeetionally Brechin is aften describit as a ceety acause o its cathedral an its status as the seat o a pre-Reformation Roman Catholic diocese (which continues the day as an episcopal seat o the Scots Episcopal Kirk), but that status haes no been offeecially recognisit in the modren era.[4][5] Nivertheless, the designation is aften incorrectly uised, wi ensaumples bein the City o Brechin and Destrict Community Council, City o Brechin and Area Partnership, City o Brechin Civic Trust and Brechin City Football Club.[6]
