On 11 October 2006, he wis electit tae be the aichth Secretar-General bi the Unitit Naitions General Assembly an offeecially succeedit Annan on 1 Januar 2007. In 2011, Ban ran unopposed for a seicont term as Secretar-General. On 21 Juin 2011, he wis unanimously re-electit bi the General Assembly an therefore continued tae serve till 31 December 2016, when he wis replaced bi António Guterres.[3][4]
