Artaxerxes I /ˌɑːrtəˈzɜːrksiːz/ (Persie: اردشیر یکم; Auld Persie: 𐎠𐎼𐎫𐎧𐏁𐏂𐎠 Artaxšaça,[1] "whose rule (xšaça < *xšaϑram) is through arta (truth)";[2] Greek: Ἀρταξέρξης[3]) wis the fift Keeng o Keengs o Persie frae 465 BC tae 424 BC. He wis the son o Xerxes I o Persie an Amestris, dauchter o Otanes.
He mey hae been the "Artasyrus" mentioned bi Herodotus as bein a Satrap o the ryal satrapy o Bactrie.
In Greek soorces he is an aa surnamed μακρόχειρ Macrocheir (Laitin: Longimanus), allegedly acause his richt haund wis langer nor his left.[4]
