Ford Mainline
The Ford Mainline is an automobile which wis produced bi the Ford Motor Company in the Unitit States in the models years 1952 tae 1956.[1] It wis introduced as the base trim level o the 1952 Ford range belaw the Customline an Crestline models.[2] The Mainline retained its position in the redesigned 1955 Ford range [3] but wis dropped for the 1957 model year when the Ford Custom became the new base model.[4]
The Mainline wis offered in 2 door sedan, 4 door sedan, 2 door coupe an 2 door station wagon body styles.[5] The station wagon wis marketit as the Mainline Ranch Wagon [2] till it lost its Mainline tag for the 1955 model year when aw Ford wagons wur moved tae their awn series.[6] Mainlines wur available wi baith inline sax cylinder an V8 ingines.[7]
Australian Ford Mainline Utility [edit]
In Australie the Mainline name wis applied tae a locally developed 2 door coupé utility version o the Ford Customline sedan frae 1952.[8] The Mainline utilized an importit Ford V8 convertible chassis [9] wi an addit cross member for additional load carryin strength.[10] It sold alangside the Australian built Customline sedan, wi baith given yearly updates till production ceased in 1959.[11] The Mainline Utility wur pouered bi an Australian produced version o the Ford side valve V8 ingine [12] till the introduction o the OHV V8 in the redesigned 1955 series.[13]
