- P.S. The relevant policy on the English Wikipaedia would be en:Wikipedia:Username#Inappropriate_usernames. (The sib policie at the English Wikipaedia wad be Wikipaedia:Uisername#Bad_uisernames.) - Armed Blowfish (mail) 04:40, 14 Mey 2007 (UTC)

- Thank ye! : ) De ye block him o her wi accoont makin alloued o nae alloued? Is he o she alloued tae mak a spleet-new accoont, gin he o she edits helply? An aw, tae whit degree is ma Scots bad? (Thank you! : ) Did you block him or her with account creation enabled or disabled? Is he or she allowed to create a brand new account, if he or she edits constructively? Also, how bad is my Scottish?) - Armed Blowfish (mail) 15:00, 14 Mey 2007 (UTC)
- "Also, how bad is my Scottish?" Put it this way - I'll reply in English! I just used the default settings when I blocked: "Prevent account creation" and "Automatically block the last IP address used by this user, and any subsequent IPs they try to edit from". I'm kind of new to the whole wiki admin thing, so please say if you think I'm messing up! Bazza 15:25, 14 Mey 2007 (UTC)
- That bad? Feel free to correct my Scots with a refactoring note, as I would like to learn.
- Well, going by English Wikipaedia rules, since Scots Wikipaedia doesn't seem to have many, the user basically committed two blockable offenses: choosing a mildly offensive user name (to some people, at least) and spamming/vandalism. The consequence for the first one is generally an indefinite block, with the autoblock turned off and account creation enabled, so that the user can create a new account with a better user name. Spamming and vandalism generally lead to a series of warnings and a lengthening series of blocks, up to indefinite. How fast this would escalate up to an indefinite block would depend on the administrator and whether or not the user had made any useful contributions. Given that the user did not make any useful contributions and the vandalism was clear-cut, anywhere from a week to indefinite makes sense. Indefinite makes sense since it could take awhile for an admin to block again if the user resumed vandalism on the Scots Wikipaedia, and the user can always be unblocked (or rather, reblocked with autoblocking turned off and account creation enabled) if he or she expresses a desire to contribute constructively.
- Also note that the autoblock will only last for 24 hours from the last time the editor tried to use a particular IP address, but if he or she appears to create another account after that time period, or from another IP address, the new account can be blocked as an apparent sockpuppet of a vandal.
- Anyway, the reason I asked is because we should probably leave a note on the user's talk page.
- Thanks,
- Armed Blowfish (mail) 16:04, 14 Mey 2007 (UTC)
- The only thing a blocked user can edit is his or her talk page, at least assuming they don't bypass their account altogether. So, a blocked user must either put a template on his or her talk page that adds the page to an unblock request category, or email an administrator. (Or create a sockpuppet, or edit as an anon once the autoblock goes away... but on English Wikipaedia those options are discouraged.) Anyway, I stole Template:unblock from the English Wikipaedia. - Armed Blowfish (mail) 12:34, 15 Mey 2007 (UTC)
Infobox
[eedit soorce]Hi, how do you do that infobox thing that you did for the ROI? I have also made and inforbox for Fraunce and I'm just doing one for the EU. I noticed that you did something "magical" with the infobox on the ROI so I was just wondering how to do it. Scroggie 17:04, 14 Mey 2007 (UTC)
- Assuming I understand what you are interestd in, you need to put the code on a separate page, like Template:Fraunce infobox. You then include the template in the article like this: {{Fraunce infobox}}. However, I am not really sure what the point is if the infobox is only going to be used in one article. We should probably make a generic country infobox with variables. Hope that helps, Armed Blowfish (mail) 17:34, 14 Mey 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, good point. I'd thought that they could be reusable, but I can't really think where we'd reuse them. Are you fluent enough in Wiki to write a generic country infobox, Armed Blowfish? I've generally just nicked things from the English wiki that I need... Bazza 08:35, 15 Mey 2007 (UTC)
- Maybe. Conditionals are hard, but then again I don't have to write it from scratch, just modify other people's code. I'll give it a try! : ) Armed Blowfish (mail) 11:54, 15 Mey 2007 (UTC)

I noticed that you were the last person to edit both and you seem to know how to use wikipedia a bit better than I do. Do you know how to merge these? I wouldn't even know where to start. Spellin
[eedit soorce]Ay ay Bazza,
We never cam tae onie greement aboot it. The RRSSC says -ei-, that's whit A uisst tae uise, an that's whit A pit for the teetles (/teitles) o pages. 84.135 haes gien some guid raesons for uisin -ee- (for tense i) an (s)he's the bodie that gangs aboot chyngin thaim aw. A dinna hae a strang opeenion on the maiter but obviously 84.135 dis sae A'v juist been lattin him/her chynge thaim. The wiki haes syne maistly converged on the spellin that 84.135 uises maistly acause naebodie airgies agin him/her whan (s)he chynges things (an me masel A'v nae mind tae airgie wi him/her on maist things -- haein read his/her airgiements aboot -ei-/-ee- A think 84.135 haes mair logic on his/her side nor the RRSSC dis). A'm takkin a fair laissez-faire attitude masel. Tae me whit's mair important is that an airticle is aye internally conseestent wi its spellin, an that there's aye redirects in place whan a teetle can hae mair nor the ae spellin.
Howp this helps, Mendor 17:46, 9 Julie 2007 (UTC)
Deletion o' Levred
[eedit soorce]Hi Baz! Hoo cam ye deletit the paidge ah pit taegither fowr Leitherheid? Ah'm no sayin' ye shoulnae hae dane et, but ah wid like tae ken why. Whit's the page on here that's equeevalent tae the English Wikipaedia's Articles for deletion? Ah'd be enterested tae see ef Levred went through a proper AfD praeceedyure, or ef et wis dane speedily.--Maclennan o' Kintail 22:24, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ah dinna hink we hae a proper deletion process here. Lang syne we didnae hae mony fowk helpin, bit we hae'd loadsae fowk vandalisin. Sae we juist delete hings that luik like vandalism.
- Gin ye hink we need a proper process, or that Ah shuidnae hae deletit the page, Ah guess we can ask the ither admins an beurocrat an see whit happens.
- Bit as fir how Ah deletit the page, it wis mainly acause it wis a LANG wey fae haein a neutral pynt ae view ("the snooty coonty o' Surrey"), the Scots wisnae sae guid, an Ah'm no shuir we suld be makkin new names for touns in Ingland. Bazza 07:32, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- Och aye, ah ken ma Scots isnae sae guid. An the ither haund, shairly no' havin' a neutral pynt ae view isnae a reason tae delete a paige? Oh, and ah think it's werth mentionin' that ah live in that 'snooty coonty', sae ah'm no' havin' a go at anywan. Ah'm juist writin' fram ma ain experiences.--Maclennan o' Kintail 10:20, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
We'v no been big eneuch up tae nou tae hae rael content disputes sae we'v no haed a formal deletion seestem, juist the admins gaun aboot an deletin hings. A think that the ae thing admins shuid be deletin on sicht is obvious vandalism, or airticles aboot things that obviously disna exist. Ma opeenion is that, seein as the Levred page wis naither o thae twa things, Bazza shuid mibbe hae pit something on the collogue page o yon airticle first an see if NPOV issues an the Scots in't cuid hae been fixt (or fixt it hissel if he haed the time). Mind you, I wad raither hae a page deletit raither nor hae a POV version o't or a version whaur the Scots isna guid (if the POV/Scots wisna gaunae get fixt suin). Nae offence meant there MoK, A ken ye're a lairner an aw that.
Tae address the ither issues: Writin fae yer ain experiences can lead tae PoV juist as easy as writin fae nae experience. Houaniver snooty ye micht think Surrey is, ye cannae hae thon phrase in an encyclopedia. Contrar tae whit hauf the contreebutors tae Talk:Main Page thinks, this Wikipedia isna some kind o joke endeavour. An naw, we shuidna be makkin up new translations for English toun names -- apairt frae the kenspeckle "Lunnon", the names o aw thae ceeties is the same in Scots as in English. Congratulations on your conditional project approval!
[eedit soorce]Dear Bazza. On Meta's Requests for new languages I read that you have recently supported a request for a new language project that has now been conditionally approved. Congratulations on that approval! I hope your community can make something wonderful out of it.
One of the requirements for getting from a conditional approval to a complete project with its own wiki is that the interface for MediaWiki for that language has been sufficiently localised. I would like to ask you to check the localisation statistics for the languages you are able to contribute to, and if you are willing, invite you to visit Betawiki, where you can contribute to improving the localisation for those languages. On Betawiki, users contribute to the MediaWiki localisation of more than 70 languages every month. Please do not hesitate to drop me a note there if you have any questions. Cheers! Birds
[eedit soorce]Ye're richt aboot birds no juist haein the ae name, an aften a name bein uised for mair nor the ae bird. A micht no hae made the best chyce o name for an airticle teetle but aw the same, teetles needs the ae name for the ae bird. O coorse ony ither names shoud be gien a mention in the airticles (an as reairtit pages) as weel as whaur the name is for ordinar uised. A kynd o waled whit wad mebbes be the maist uised, or a form o't, tho aw thon wis a guid bittie subjective for want o eneuch information. Eald Englisc
[eedit soorce]Greetings, I'm an American English-speaker who passionately learns and writes in Old English, and I was just wondering how well a Scots-speaker is able to understand Old English. I basically picked your user page at random for this. I will enter a small portion of an article I wrote about the computer game Diablo (from Blizzard Entertainment), just to see if you can pick up on it or not:
- Standende in þǣm Cānduras rīċe þǣre ƿorulde þæs Friþhūses ("Sanctuary"), Dēofol hæfþ þone plēȝere ān anlīepe hæleðe ƿieldeþ, sƿā hē oþþe hēo fiehteþ tō cƿellenne Eȝes Hlāford. Under þǣm tūne Tristram, sīðeþ se plēȝere þurh sixtīene burgum tō feohtenne ætnīehstan Dēofol and his hildedēoflas.
In this text, simply replace ƿ with the modern letter w, and I'll assume that you should already recognize ȝ as being yogh.
Just message me back on my Uiser Collogue Page after you have read it. I'm interested in seeing the results! And keep up the good work. —Wōdenhelm 04:08, 28 Dizember 2008 (UTC)

Hello Bazza, I removed this message, because it contained a bug (the English 'variables' were translated too, therefore the system did not know what the translation meant), if You wish to translate more of this message (or any other interface message), please be kindly invited to betawiki:, this message can be found here and it has a documentation how to avoid such bug.

Translation of a short story
[eedit soorce]Hi my friend!
I would like to request something from you. Yes, translation. I hope, it's not a bad thing for you. Some years ago I wrote a (really) short story about a lonely man (actually symbolized the Saami nation). I translated into some languages and I thought, it would be great to have it more, like also in Scots :) I made this page, the English translation is somewhere there. You can put the Scots translation there. Thank you again! Sorry for my disturb... :( - hu:User:Eino81
Your reverts of my Edits
[eedit soorce]Do You have any reason for Your Reverts of my edits [2] and [3]? The Category:Bahá'í Faith exsists and is categorized in Category:Releegion. -- JCIV 08:07, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- Aye. We dinna hae ony categories the nou for ilka releegion - juist the ae category. Sae Ah dinna hink it's a guid idea tae add them in fir Bahá'í. Gin we haed mair airticles, mebbes it wad be a guid tae dae somethin wi mair categories, likes. Bazza 11:29, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
- Excuse me, but I don't understand scots. Could you tell me the same in english, please? -- JCIV 14:28, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
- Sure. We don't have categories just now for every religion - just the one "religion" category. So I don't think it's a good idea to add them in for Bahá'í. If we had more articles on religion, then maybe it would be good to add more categories. We're only a small wikipedia just now, and the levels of categorisation on the English version just aren't relevant here. Bazza 16:31, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
- Two Articles are not enough for an own category? I saw also categories with one article like Category:Jainism, three articles like Category:Judaism and with five articles like Category:Islam. I don't understand why we can't do the same with Category:Bahá'í Faith? -- JCIV 16:50, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
- To be honest, I'm not fussed. I don't think we really have a sensible categorisation system in place, so you know, if you want to edit the categories for religions, I'm not that bothered. Bazza 17:06, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'm sure, that someone will write more articles for this category like Bahá'u'lláh, the founder of the Bahá'í Faith. If you agree, I will categorized both articles in Category:Bahá'í Faith once again. -- JCIV 17:55, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Your admin status
[eedit soorce]Hello. I'm a steward. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus recently. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.
You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on scowiki, where you are an administrator. Since that wiki does not have its own administrators' rights review process, the global one applies.
If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights, and demonstrate a continued requirement to maintain these rights.
We stewards will evaluate the responses. If there is no response at all after approximately one month, we will proceed to remove your administrative rights. In cases of doubt, we will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact us on m:Stewards' noticeboard.
