The ceety is locatit aboot 100 mile sooth o the coast o the Gulf o Mexico, an aboot 50 kilometers frae the state caipital Villahermosa, near the border wi the state o Chiapas. Tacotalpa is locatit near the Usumacinta River. In 2010, the population o the toun consistit o 8,071 inhabitants.
