Lekeitio (Spaingie: Lequeitio) is a toun an municipality locatit in the province o Biscay, in the Spaingie autonomous commonty o Basque Kintra, 53 km (33 mi) northeast frae Bilbao. The municipality haes 7,293 inhabitants (2005) an is ane o the maist important fishin ports o the Basque coast. Tourism haes a important role durin the simmer saisons, when the toun is a resort wi ane beach cried Isunza an the nearbi Carraspio beach in the toun o Mendexa.
The maist important monument is the kirk o Santa María, a gothic basilica frae the 15t hunderyear. Lekeitio is the birthplace o Resurrección María de Azkue an aw, ane o the maist important Basque scholars o the 19t hunderyear.

The festivities are in honor o the patron o the toun, San Antolin, an are celebratit frae 1 tae 8 September. Ane o the maist popular pairts o the festival involves geese.
This is held on 5 September, the aim bein tae hauld on for as lang as possible tae a goose that is hangin frae a rope that crosses the harbor frae ane dock tae the ither. The rope haes ane side fixed an on the ither side thare is a group o men pullin the rope tae raise an lawer it. In the middle o the rope thare is a goose drenched in ile (in previous times the bird wis alive). Thare are a lot o boats that tak pairt an aw o thaim hae tae go, in the order assigned throu a random lottery in the fore-nuin, tae the place the goose is an ane pairticipant frae each boat haes tae grab the goose bi the neck as strangly as possible. Ance the boat haes advancit tae the front, the men at the end o the rope stairt pulling it, liftin the goose wi the member hauldin it. Ance the pairticipants reach the tap, the men let him drop frae thare, before rapidly pulling him up again. They continue like that till the pairticipant lets the goose go or till the neck o the goose gets breuken. The ane who maks maist elevations wins the competeetion.
This day haes been documentit syne the 5t hunderyear an it is said that its oreegins are aulder. This act haes been celebratit syne 1877.

The festival is controversial, especially amang ainimal richts activists, who hae cried for it tae be stoppit.[1] Durin the festival fowk wear denim wirk clothes, aften combined wi a white shirt.
