Allesley (pronounced /ˈɔːlzli/ ^{(deprecatit template)}) is a ceevil parish on the northwastren edge o the Ceety o Coventry, Wast Midlands, Ingland, aboot 3 mile (5 km) wast o Coventry ceety centre. Accordin tae the 2001 census. the parish haed a population o 805. Till recently it contained tae a factory belangin tae the caur maker, Jaguar. Despite nou being a suburb o Coventry, several oreeginal biggins hae survived frae when the aurie wis a separate veelage.

Maist o the auld veelage, nearest the kirk, is a conservation aurie on a law ridge o heich grund atween the River Sherbourne an the Pickford Brook, a tributary.

History

Allesley grew aroond the 800-year-auld Aw Saunts Kirk, the spire o which is prominent on the skyline o the veelage. Oreeginally built aroond 1130, it wis rebuilt in 1863 an remains relatively unaltered syne then. The notit writer on husbandry, Walter Blith, wis baptised there on 7 August 1605.

The Birmingham Road which runs through the veelage, is pairt o the main road built atween 1828 an 1831 bi Thomas Telford frae Holyhead tae Lunnon. A toll hoose oreeginally stood at the junction o the Holyhead Road an Allesley Old Road, an uisers o the Holyhead or Turnpike Road wur chairgit a toll as a means o contributin towards the cost o biggin the road. Aroond 1930, the chairges wur discontinued an the toll hoose wis demolished in the mid 1930s.
