It taks its name frae the "Holy Unmercenaries": saunts who receivit nae payment for thair medical services. Syne the 2011 local govrenment refuirm it is pairt o the municipality Agioi Anargyroi-Kamatero, o which it is the seat an a municipal unit.[2]

Its biggit-up aurie is continuous wi that o Athens an the neebourin suburbs Peristeri, Ilion, Kamatero, Acharnes, Nea Filadelfeia an Nea Chalkidona. Motorwey 1 (Athens–Thessaloniki) passes east o the toun. Agioi Anargyroi haes a station on the Athens–Thessaloniki railwey. The auld metric Piraeus–Patras railway passes throu the toun as well.
