On 8 Januar 2020, in a militar operation code named Operation Mairtyr Soleimani (Persie: عملیات شهید سلیمانی),[3] Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Gaird Corps (IRGC) launched 22 ballistic missiles at the Ayn al-Asad airbase in Al Anbar Govrenorate, Wastren Iraq, as weel as anither airbase in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan, in response tae the assassination o Major General Qasem Soleimani bi Unitit States forces.[4][5][6]
