Wayne Douglas Gretzky, CC (/ˈɡrɛtski/; born Januar 26, 1961) is a Canadian-American umwhile professional ice hockey player an umwhile heid coach. He played 20 saisons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for fower teams frae 1979 tae 1999. Nicknamed "The Great Ane", he haes been cried the greatest hockey player ever"[1] bi mony sportswriters, players, an the NHL itself. He is the leadin pynt-scorer in NHL history, wi mair assists nor ony ither player haes pynts, an is the anly NHL player tae tot ower 200 points in ane season – a feat he accomplished fower times. In addeetion, he tallied ower 100 pynts in 16 professional saisons, 14 o them consecutive. At the time o his retirement in 1999, he held 40 regular-saison records, 15 playoff records, an sax Aw-Starn records.[1]
