Santiago Niltepec is a toun an municipality in Oaxaca in sooth-wastren Mexico. It is pairt o the Juchitán Destrict in the wast o the Istmo de Tehuantepec region. The name means "Hill o Indigo."[1]

The toun is 60 meters abuin sea level. The municipality covers a aurie o 680.01 km², wattered by the Niltepec river which rises in the muntains an flows tae the lawer lagoon. The climate is tropical, wi hot simmers. Flora includes mahogany, Nopo, Guanacaste, scrub an grassland. Wildlife includes wild boar, raccoon, squirrel, armadillo an iguana.[1]

Economic activities include cultivation o corn, sesame, sorghum, melon an wattermelon, cattle fermin an production o Mezcal an tradeetional textiles. Syne the toun is locatit on Heich-gate 190, thare is some tourist trade in local handicrafts an mezcal.[1] Thare are plans tae develop wind ferms in the municipality, but these hae met local resistance due tae the communal awnership o laund an concerns aboot the annual rental prices affered, $98 tae $117 per hectare.[2]
