The Santiago Mariño Municipality, accordin tae a 2007 population estimate bi the Naitional Institute o Statistics o Venezuela, haes a population o 191,731 (up frae 165,436 in 2000). This amoonts tae 11.5% o the state's population.[3] The municipality's population densitie is 385.78 inhabitants per square kilometre (999.2/sq mi).[4]

The mayor o the Santiago Mariño Municipality is Francisco J. Gerratana, electit on 31 October 2004 wi 62% o the vote.[5] He replacit Efren Rodriguez shortly efter the elections.[6] The municipality is dividit intae five pairishes; Capital Santiago Mariño, Arévalo Aponte (separatit frae Caipital Santiago Mariño parish effective 30 Januar 1995), Chuao, Samán de Güere, an Alfredo Pacheco Miranda (separatit frae Samán de Güere parish effective 16 Dizember 1997).[2]
