Karayılan (literally "black snake") is a toun in Hatay Province, Turkey

It is situatit tae the east o Turkis state heich-gate D.817 an Çukurova Motorwey. Distance tae İskenderun is 16 kilometre (9.9 mi) an tae Antakya (admeenistrative centre o Hatay Province) is 93 kilometre (58 mi). The population is 10628 [1] as o 2011.
History
[eedit | eedit soorce]The name o the toun refers tae a 17t-century Turkmen faimily. In 1691 the Ottoman govrenment tree'd tae settle the nomads. The nomads struggled tae continue their tradeetional lifestyle. Awtho the govrenment punished thaim bi exilin tae Rakka Eyalet (nou in Sirie) they wur able tae return. But at the end o continuous struggles, towards the end o the 18t century, three faimilies gave up an agreed tae settle whaur they wur assigned tae.[2] In 1990, Karayılan was declared a seat of township.
