Its caipital is Mogadishu, tho the region itsel is coextensive wi the city an is hintle smawer than the historical region o Benadir. It is bordered bi the Somali regions o Middle Shabele an Lawer Shabele, as well as the Indian Ocean.
The Somali term Banaadir derives frae the oreeginal Persian wird bandar, meanin "port" or "harbour". It refers tae the northren historical ports o Barawa an Mogadishu.
