Alestorm is a hivy metal baund frae Pairth, Scotland.[3] Their muisic is characterized bi a pirate theme an, wi that, haes been dubbed a "Pirate metal" baund[4][5] at a popular hivy metal relatit wabsteid.

The baund formed unner the name Battleheart in 2004. Efter releasin twa EPs, they wur signed bi Napalm Records in 2007 an renamed thairsels Alestorm.[6]

Oreeginally stairtin oot as a twa-member baund consistin o Gavin Harper an Christopher Bowes, Battleheart recordit an independent EP in early 2006. The baund wis complete wi the addition o bassist Dani Evans an drummer Doug Swierczek. Battleheart played their first live show anerlie five day efter the members haed met for the first time.

A seicont EP wis recordit the same year, wi Evans nou featurin in the recordin line-up, though the drums wis programmed again. Later in the year, the sang "Set Sail And Conquer" frae the EP wis featured on Metal Hammer's "Battle Metal V" CD wi ither sic baunds as Týr, Firewind, HammerFall an Blind Guardian.[7]

In early 2007, drummer Doug Swierczek left the baund an wis replaced bi Ian Wilson. Efter bein signed bi Napalm Records, the baund chynged their name tae Alestorm. The name chynge wis due tae similarities wi Battlelore, wha wis signed tae the the same label. Their debut album, Captain Morgan's Revenge, wis released in early 2008.[8] The sang "Captain Morgan's Revenge" wis an aa featured on Metal Hammer's "Battle Metal VI."

In April 2008, the single "Heavy Metal Pirates" wis released as a digital dounload.[9] Ian Wilson left Alestorm temporarly in Juin o that year acause he cudna commit fully tae the baund. He wis temporarly replaced bi German Alex Tabisz, afore rejynin the band in late August, in time for a show at Ivory Blacks in Glesga on August 29.

In September 2008, Bowes annoonced on Bloodstock's offeecial forums that guitarist Gavin Harper haed left the baund. Tim Shaw wis annoonced as Harper's replacement but, efter a brief period o tourin, left the baund. Dani Evans switcht instruments frae bass tae guitar, an Gareth Murdock o Waylander joined as the replacement bassist.

In March 2010, Ian Wilson annoonced he haed left the band due tae wantin tae dae ither things. He wis replaced wi a new drummer named Peter Alcorn.
