Moont Logan is the heichest moontain in Canadae an the seicont-heichest peak in North Americae, efter Moont McKinley (Denali). The moontain wis named efter Sir William Edmond Logan, a Canadian geologist an founder o the Geological Survey o Canadae (GSC). Moont Logan is locatit athin Kluane Pairk Pairk Reserve[4] in soothwastren Yukon, less than 40 kilometres (25 mi) north o the Yukon–Alaska border. Moont Logan is the soorce o the Hubbard an Logan glaciers. Logan is believed tae hae the lairgest base circumference o ont non-volcanic moontain on Yird (mony shield volcanoes are much lairger in size an mass), includin a massif wi eleven peaks ower 5,000 metres (16,400 ft).[5][6]

Due tae active tectonic upliftin, Moont Logan is still risin in hicht.[7] Afore 1992, the exact elevation o Moont Logan wis unient an measurements ranged frae 5,959 tae 6,050 metres (19,551 tae 19,849 ft). In Mey 1992, a GSC expedeetion climbed Moont Logan an fixed the current hicht o 5,959 metres (19,551 ft) uising GPS.[5][8]

Temperatures are extremely law on an near Moont Logan. On the 5,000-metre-high (16,000 ft) plateau, air temperature hovers aroond −45 °C (−49 °F) in the winter an reaches near freezing in simmer wi the median temperature for the year aroond −27 °C (−17 °F). Minimal snaw melt leads tae a significant ice cap, reaching awmaist 300 metres (980 ft) in certain spots.[6] A temperature o −77.5 °C (−107.5 °F) wis unoffeecially recordit on the summit on 26 Mey 1991.[9]
