The Latvie Soviet Socialist Republic (Latvie: Latvijas Padomju Sociālistiskā Republika; Roushie: Латвийская Советская Социалистическая Республика, Latviyskaya Sovetskaya Sotsialisticheskaya Respublika), kent as the Latvie SSR an aw, wis ane o the republics that made up the Soviet Union. It wis established on 21 Julie 1940, durin Warld War II, as a puppet state[1] in the territory o the previously unthirlt Republic o Latvie efter it haed been occupeed bi the Soviet Airmy, in conformity wi the terms o 23 August 1939 Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, on 17 Juin 1940. The Latvie SSR wis formally annexed intae the Soviet Union (USSR) on 5 August 1940, when it nominally became the fifteent constituent republic o the USSR. Its territory wis subsequently conquered bi Nazi Germany in 1941, afore bein retaken bi the Soviets in 1944–1945. The first freely electit pairlament o the Latvie SSR haed passed Sovereignty Declaration "On the Renewal o the Unthirldom o the Republic o Latvie" on 4 Mey 1990, an renamit the Latvie SSR the Republic o Latvie.[2] The full unthirldom o Republic o Latvie wis restored on 21 August 1991.
