James Barbour (1834 - 5 May 1912) wis a Scottish architectour responseeble for ower fower hunner biggins in Dumfriesshire an Kirkcudbrightshire.[1] His twin brither Robert set up the drapers shop in Dumfries that turnt intae the business R Barbour & Sons.[2]

James Barbour wis born in Dunscore an stairtit his trainin in Dumfries in c. 1848-1849 wit Walter Newall. He set up his ain practice in 1860.[1]

He wis a member o the Dumfriesshire and Galloway Natural History and Antiquarian Society an Fellow o the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. He excavated the Roman site at Birrens.[1]
