Thay wur first describit in 1966 bi the herpetologist Jay Savage.[2] On 15 Mey 1989, a single male wis foond, an nae a single B. periglenes is reportit tae hae been seen onywhere in the warld syne, an it is classified bi the Internaitional Union for Conservation o Naitur (IUCN) as an extinct species.[1] Its sudden extinction micht hae been caused bi chytrid fungus an extensive habitat loss.
