The gowden taid (Bufo periglenes) wis a smaa, shiny, bricht true toad that wis ance abundant in a smaa region o heich-altitude clood-covered tropical forests, aboot 10 square kilometre (3.9 sq mi) in aurie, north o the ceity o Monteverde, Costa Rica. Thay wur first describit in 1966 bi the herpetologist Jay Savage.[2] On 15 Mey 1989, a single male wis foond, an nae a single B. periglenes is reportit tae hae been seen onywhere in the warld syne, an it is classified bi the Internaitional Union for Conservation o Naitur (IUCN) as an extinct species.[1] Its sudden extinction micht hae been caused bi chytrid fungus an extensive habitat loss.
