It wis appent bi the Maybole and Girvan Railway wi anely ane short platform in 1860 an wis reteenit as a guids station in 1877 bi the Glasgow and South Western Railway wha teuk ower the runnin o the line tae Stranraer. The Girvan New station wis faurer frae the toun an this wisna popular wi passengers an it appears that trains cawed at aither station for a short while. Girvan Old Station closed tae raiglar passenger traffeck on 1 Apryle 1893 an the guids station remeened in uise.[5] Anither soorce states that Girvan New station at first anely catered for the wirkins conteenaing sooth tae Stranrawer.

The auld Girvan terminus gaed oot o uise in the 1980s due tae the puir condeetion o the widden brig ower the River Girvan awtho ballast trains war aye makkin uise o the site.[7]
