The oreeginal Girvan terminus station wis situatit adjacent tae the guids station that wis estaiblished at the site. It wis appent bi the Maybole and Girvan Railway wi anely ane short platform in 1860 an wis reteenit as a guids station in 1877 bi the Glasgow and South Western Railway wha teuk ower the runnin o the line tae Stranraer. The Girvan New station wis faurer frae the toun an this wisna faur ben wi passengers an it appears that trains cawed at aither station for a short while. Girvan Old Station closed tae raiglar passenger traffeck on 1 Apryle 1893 an the guids station remeened in uise.^[5] Anither soorce states that Girvan New station at first anely catered for the wirkins conteenaing sooth tae Stranrawer.

Girvan Old haed a single platform. The guids station haed a nummer o biggins incluidin a turntable, watter column, weein machines, ingine shed that closed in 1940^[6] an a coal yaird wi a brig ower the River Girvan that led tae the herbour an jet.^[7]^[5] The track wis aye in situ in 1989 houaniver it haed been liftit bi 2014. The auld Girvan terminus gaed oot o uise in the 1980s due tae the puir condeetion o the widden brig ower the River Girvan awtho ballast trains war aye makkin uise o the site.^[7]

The Glasgow and South-Western Railway built a line tae the herbour frae the guids station that involved a seicond brig ower the River Girvan an at the herbour jet coal wis empied doun a chute intae waitin colliers that teuk the coal tae Ireland. A netwark o lies an twa waggon turntables existed here.^[7] This arrangement anely lestit till 1918 wi coal comen frae the Bargany Pit.^[6]
