The emblem wis designed bi the Swiss airtist an engraver Jean-Baptiste Frener, who lived in Guatemala frae 1854 till his daith in 1897.
The coat o airms an aa appears on the Banner o Guatemala. The quetzal previously appeared in the banner o Los Altos, Central Americae in the 1830s.
