Maist species are kent as clematis in Inglis, while some are forby kent as traveller's joy, a name inventit for the sole Breetish native, C. vitalba, bi the yerbalist John Gerard; virgin's bower for C. viticella; auld man's beard, applee'd tae several wi prominent seedheads; an leather flouer or vase vine for the North American Clematis viorna.
