Bate (pronounced [ˈbaːtɛ]; Italian: Battaglia della Bainsizza or Bainsizza San Lorenzo) is a veelage in wastren Slovenie in the Ceety Municipality o Nova Gorica.[1] It is located on the Banjšice Plateau. It is pairt o the Gorizia aurie of the wider tradeetional region o the Slovene Littoral, an is nou pairt of the Goriška Statistical Region. It includes the hamlets o Dolenji Konec, Gorenji Konec, Na Placu, an Breščaki in the main dounset, as well as Čafarini, Humarji, Sveto, Ježevec, Madoni, Jelaršče, Pičulini, Podlaka, Sedevčiči, an Čeferinovšče.[2]
Name

The ruit *bęt- is believit tae be o substratum oreegin, borraeed frae the name o the Veneti fowk.[3] Durin the Italian annexation o the Julian Mairch, the veelage wis offeecially namit Battaglia della Bainsizza (leeterary, 'Battle o the Banjšice Plateau') tae honour the Eleivent Battle o the Isonzo, which teuk place nearbi. The veelage is the steid o a abandoned Austro-Hungarian militar cemetery conteenin the remains o aboot 5,000 sodgers in unmarkit graves.
