Sukhumi Destrict is a destrict o Abkhazie, Georgie’s breakawa republic. It corresponds tae the eponymous Georgie municipality. Its caipital is Sukhumi, the toun bi the same name, which is the caipital o entire Abkhazie an aw. The population o the destrict is 11,747 accordin tae the 2003 census. The ceety o Sukhumi is a separate administrative entity wi mair nor 40,000 inhabitants.[1]

Admeenistration
[eedit | eedit soorce]On 2 Apryle 2003, Preses Ardzinba dismissed Lev Avidzba an appointit State Security Service Chairman Zurab Agumava as actin Destrict Head.[2]
On 21 Februar 2007, afore the local elections, Preses Bagapsh temporarily prolangit Vladimir Avidzba tenur as Heid o the Destrict Admeenistration.[3][4] Efter Avidzba wis re-electit, he wis permanently re-appointit on 21 Mairch.[5]
On 12 Juin 2012, Preses Alexander Ankvab dismissed Avidzba for reachin the age o retirement, an awairdit him wi the order Akhdz-Apsha in the third degree for his lang govrenment service. On the same day, Ankvab appointit Heid o the Eddication Depairtment Zhuzhuna Bigvava as Avidzba's successor.[6]
