Ponikve (pronounced [pɔˈniːkvɛ]; German: Ponique^[2]) is a dounset in the Municipality o Dobrepolje in Slovenie. The aurie is pairt o the historical region o Lawer Carniola. The municipality is nou includit in the Central Slovenie Statistical Region.^[3]

Name

The name Ponikve is a plural shape derivit frae the wird ponikva 'influent stream' or 'sinkhole' (intae which such a stream disappears). In its plural shape it refers tae a gently rollin landscape consistin o the basins o a influent stream. Like ither veelages namit Ponikve an similar names (e.g., Ponikva), it refers tae a local landscape element.^[4] In the past the German name wis Ponique.^[2]

The local kirk is dedicatit tae Saunt Florian an belangs tae the Pairish o Dobrepolje–Videm. It is a Gothic biggin that wis hivily rebuilt in the 18t hunderyear.^[5]
