The harbour dunter mey be polytypic, wi geografically distinct populations representin distinct races: P. p. phocoena in the North Atlantic an Wast Africae, P. p. relicta in the Black Sea an Sea o Azov, an unnamed population in the northwast Paceefic an P. p. vomerina in the northeast Paceefic.[3]
