The name wis chyngit on the basis o the 1948 Law on Names o Dounsets an Designations o Squares, Streets, an Biggins as pairt o efforts bi Slovenie's postwar communist govrenment tae remuive releegious elements frae toponyms.[2][3][4] Afore the name Dramlje wis appleed tae the dounset, it wis a regional name referrin tae a broad region north o Šentjur, stretchin frae Vojnik tae Ponikva.[5] This regional name wis attestit in 1043 as Teramperch (an as Dremel in 1354, Dreming in 1377, Dremyng in 1401, an Dråming in 1450).
