The first Taft wis the F10 introduced in 1974. It wis equipped wi a 1.0L petrol ingine an a 4-speed transmission wi a 2-range transfer case. The F10 wis available in short-wheel-base (SWB) softtop an hardtop versions.

Baith models featurt an improved transmission an wur available in SWB Softtop an Hardtop versions. In 1979, trayback/ute versions o the F20 an F50 introduced as the F25 an F55 models. Aroond 1983, updated F20/F25 models wur introduced wi an optional Deluxe version an optional 5-speed gearbox. At the same time the F50/F55 models whaur replaced wi the F60/F65 wi a 2.8L DL diesel, wi the same Deluxe model version an optional 5-speed gearbox.

Atween 1981 an 1984, Toyota sauld a rebadged Taft kent as the Toyota Blizzard. Fitted wi the 2.2L L-series diesel, the LD10 Blizzard featurt the same optional Deluxe model fitout as the Taft.

In 1984, the Taft\Scat models wur replaced wi the Daihatsu Fourtrak (Daihatsu Rocky in Australie). In Indonesie, the Daihatsu Fourtrak is still kent as the Daihatsu Taft GT.
